Sr Lic Vocational Nurse
Position Description
Employees in this classification are experienced LVN's responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned specialty or subspecialty outpatient clinic. Work is performed under the direction of a staff nurse and/or physician as part of a total health care team in providing complete evaluations to patients. Works under the direct supervision of staff nurse or physician. No delegated supervisory authority; may instruct co-workers and supervise them in the performance of special procedures. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions, necessitating a high degree of contact with patients, families and clinic personnel.
Major/Essential Functions
- Delivers clinical excellence through accurate administration of medications, immunizations, and treatments following provider orders and departmental policies.
- Communicates with empathy and clarity, ensuring families understand their child’s plan of care and feel supported throughout their visit.
- Collaborates with compassion and professionalism as a valued member of the interdisciplinary health care team- supporting physicians, advanced practice providers, and fellow nurses to promote seamless, coordinated care.
- Performs clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs, preparing and maintaining examination and treatment rooms, sterilizing equipment, and ensuring all instruments are ready for patient care.
- Documents thoroughly using the electronic medical record (EMR) to support communication, care planning, and quality improvement.
- Responds to patient calls and messages with attentiveness and professionalism, following clinic protocols and ensuring timely, compassionate communication.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of vocational nursing.
- Current Vocational Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice vocational nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas.
- Two (2) years of LVN experience in a hospital, clinic or community-based environment.
