Staff Associate I

The Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center, Mailman School of Public Health, seeks a highly qualified and motivated researcher for a Staff Associate I (Senior Data Analyst) position to work in its Geroscience Computational Core. The successful candidate will work with a collaborative team of researchers under the direction of Dr. Daniel Belsky, Associate Professor of Epidemiology (in CAC).

The CAC Geroscience Computational Core works with investigators throughout MSPH and CUIMC to design and implement measurement of biological aging within ongoing or planned cohort studies and clinical trials. Primary activities of the core involve analysis of "omics" data, including DNA methylation, RNAseq, and metabolomic and proteomic datasets, along with blood chemistry and organ-function-test data. In addition, the core provides support for data storage and management, training for pre- and post-doctoral fellows, and consultation on development of grants and paper projects. The core is supported by CAC, the CUIMC Aging Initiative, and extramural awards from NIH and charitable foundations and offers excellent working conditions in a collegial and flexible environment, with potential and support for long-term career growth.   • 40% - Provide statistical analysis of datasets using software such as R or Python, including machine learning, genome-wide association studies, pathway analysis, and multi-omics integration.
  • 40% - Manage databases of omics and phenotypic data for multiple cohort studies and trials, including data cleaning, documentation, and facilitation of data sharing.
  • 15% - Assist in the preparation of written and visual summaries of data for scientific manuscripts and grants.
  • 5% - Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biostatistics, bioinformatics, data science, computer science, computational or systems biology, epidemiology, economics, or another relevant quantitative/ data analysis field and four years of experience preferred.
  • Experience with quantitative data management and analysis.
  • Proficiency with R (required; other software – SAS, Stata, Python are a bonus).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in biostatistics, bioinformatics, data science, computer science, computational or systems biology, epidemiology, economics, or another relevant quantitative/ data analysis field.
  • 2+ years experience
  • Knowledge of relevant subject matter (genetics/genomics; biology of aging; data science)
  • High-level statistical skills (multi-level models, Bayesian analysis, etc.).
  • Bioinformatics skills.
  • Mathematical and computational modeling skills.

Subject to business needs, we may support flexible and hybrid work arrangements. Options will be discussed during the interview process.

Appointments are made on a fiscal year basis and are eligible for renewal each July 1st, contingent upon performance and funding.
