Staff Associate I
The Korem Lab in the Department of Systems Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Staff Associate I who will carry data analysis for an NIH-funded project studying cross-cohort associations between the gut microbiome and alopecia areata. The project is a collaboration with the lab of Dr. Angela Christiano. This is a position for a computational biologist with excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer programming, bioinformatics, statistical analysis, and data visualization. The analyst is expected to perform the aforementioned tasks under the guidance of the PI, provide preliminary analyses for funding applications, and provide assistance to other lab members.
Duties
- Functional Knowledge
* Knowledge of data analysis and biological subject matter. gaps will be filled by on-job training. 20%
- Problem Solving
* Will solve moderately complex analytic problems under the guidance of the PI and methods established in the lab. 30%
- Decision Making/Autonomy
* Will work within guidelines to carry out analyses according to the needs of the project. 10%
- Technical Expertise
* Ability in data analysis and statistics. 30%
- Communication
* Communicate regularly with PI and other lab members. 10%
- Bachelor’s degree in specific research field (e.g. computer science, statistics, data analysis, biology)
- 4 years experience preferred
- Understanding of statistics and machine learning is required. basic knowledge in biology is a plus, and so is expreiene in microbiome data analysis.
