Staff Associate III
The Staff Associate III of the CSCI Flow Cytometry Core will work alongside the Director of Operations to manage the day-to-day and long-term operations of the core facility. Responsibilities include technical oversight of the high-end instruments in the lab, guiding researchers with deep technical and scientific guidance, development of teaching and training materials, teaching and training and development and implementation of operational strategies to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of core services.
Responsibilities:
Functional Knowledge
- Work with users to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot experiments on the core instruments, providing deep technical and scientific insight: 10%
- Working with the Director of Operations, develop and refine operational strategies to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of activities in the core: 8%
- Assist the Director of Operations to ensure that core facility operations are compliant with guidelines and regulations: 2%
Problem Solving
- Troubleshoot instrument issues: 5%
- Troubleshoot issues that arise in users’ experiments that utilize the instruments in the core facility: 10%
- Design and implement strategies to test new equipment and reagents: 5%
Decision Making/Autonomy
- Coordinate repair of instrumentation: 5%
- Perform experiments to test new applications of flow cytometry technology and reagents; lead R&D projects: 5%
- Provide accurate scientific and technical guidance to users with minimal supervision: 5%
- Implement new methods and protocols, oversee installation of new equipment, and establish standards for new services to support evolving user needs: 5%
Technical Expertise
- Ensure that instrumentation is in top operational working order through quality control, maintenance, and testing: 10%
- Develop standard operating procedures and other documentation to support researchers’ utilization of the instruments for successful experiment outcomes: 10%
Communication
- Train new users of the core facility to operate complex equipment: 4%
- Teach new users theoretical and practical aspects of flow cytometry, cell sorting, and imaging cytometry in a classroom-based setting: 4%
- Communicate with the user base of >500 researchers through email with updates in the core facility: 4%
- Liaison with vendors to coordinate testing of equipment and reagents: 4%
- Act as a liaison between the core facility and other entities with the University: 2%
- Act as a liaison between the core facility and other core facilities at neighboring institutions: 2%
Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4-6 years experience
