Staff Therapist, Body Appreciation
Job Summary
Provides a comprehensive array of counseling services to the campus community, including initial consultations, diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, crisis intervention, short-term individual counseling, and both psychoeducational and process-focused group counseling. Engages in prevention and educational efforts by designing and delivering psychoeducational programs.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct clinical services to university students
- Provides crisis intervention and after-hours emergency on-call coverage
- Provides outreach and consultation to campus community
- Provides clinical supervision to graduate student trainees
- Utilizes and maintains the electronic health record
Department-Specific Tasks and Responsibilities
- Identify and address resource gaps to ensure equitable access to services, prevention, and intervention programs for all athletes experiencing disordered eating and body image concerns.
- Design and implement individualized care plans centered on eating disorders and associated mental health issues to support clinical staff and partners in providing comprehensive care to students served by CAPS.
- Lead a multidisciplinary treatment team to define and uphold standards of care grounded in evidence-based practices for eating disorder management, while promoting a campus culture of body positivity through education, outreach, and events.
- Offer eating disorder recovery support within the collegiate recovery community as needed.
- Create and deliver group programs focused on eating disorders and co-occurring mental health challenges, such as food-related struggles and body image issues.
- Develop and assess psychoeducational workshops and presentations tailored to KSU students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders, focusing on eating disorders and related concerns, incorporating feedback for ongoing improvement.
- Enhance the professional growth of CAPS staff, trainees, and interns by offering targeted training and seminars, emphasizing eating disorders and integrated care approaches.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in counseling, psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid, and unrestricted license or associate license per the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage & Family Therapists
Required Experience
Previous internship providing counseling services

Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited in a mental health profession
Preferred Experience
Three (3) years of related work experience; Experience with electronic health record systems; Experience working with diverse individuals and groups; Experience with mental health issues in institutions of higher education

- Knowledge of professional, national, and state ethical guidelines
- Knowledge of individual, group and couples counseling skills with young adult population presenting with concerns across the continuum of mental health
- Familiarity with short-term models of treatment
- Knowledge of professional, national, and state ethical guidelines
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
- Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite, Electronic Medical Record systems)
- Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
- Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette

- Stays current with emerging research in student behavioral health and demonstrates expertise in evidence-based interventions, eating disorders, body image concerns, and mental health across diverse student populations, including student-athletes.
- Offers specialized guidance to student-athletes on nutrition and body appreciation, in coordination with athletic and wellness staff.
- Builds trust with students, promotes body positivity, and delivers stigma-reducing education that supports holistic wellbeing.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred)
- Possesses specialized training and/or experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of eating disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions (e.g., previous work in an eating disorder treatment facility or a position centered on supporting individuals with eating disorder diagnoses).
- Understands NCAA guidelines, campus resources, and cultural factors that influence body perception and wellness.
