Stage Technician-Audio (Stage Technician)
Job Summary
The Stage Technician - Audio is responsible for the operation, oversight, and maintenance of IU Auditorium audio and video systems and supplemental audio and video systems for all events in the venue. This individual leads the audio experience at IU Auditorium, ensuring high-quality, consistent sound reinforcement.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Acquires and/or assists with the creation of audio/video and other event needs from Stage Manager and/or tour rider.
- Coordinates audio/video-related event needs with the production team, outside production groups, and facility users via written documents and meetings.
- Consults with users regarding audio/video needs and issues.
- Selects event-related in-house audio/video equipment and/or schedule rentals.
- Identifies and communicates audio-related logistical, technical, and/or infrastructure issues.
- Provides technical guidance and direction to stagehands assigned to the audio area during setup and strike of traveling shows.
- Assists with oversight and supervision of local (part-time) stagehand labor and/or touring crew.
- Takes appropriate action and/or alert the Stage Manager regarding safety concerns.
- Facilitates training and instruction as needed.
- Plans, programs, and operates audio/video systems for non-touring productions.
- Drafts input lists and console configurations.
- Executes routing, patching, and audio console layout; program consoles.
- Hangs monitors and microphones; patches, cables, line-check, builds snapshots, and EQ per production requirements.
- Integrates house technology and gear.
- Serves as "House Audio Op" and operate the in-house audio console for touring productions as needed.
- Sets up, operates, maintains, cleans, troubleshoots, and repairs audio/video equipment, consoles, systems, storage areas, and related components.
- Maintains audio/video software and firmware updates; facilitate inventory updates.
- Advises on maintenance of venue audio/video systems.
- Performs other backstage-related maintenance, cleaning, and repair as needed or assigned.
- Maintains records of inventories, maintenance, repairs, and projects.
- Researches prices on new equipment and recommend items for purchase.
- Assists the Stage Manager and other full-time staff in other production and maintenance requirements as needed.
General Responsibilities
- Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs the lighting and sound systems.
- Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs stage technology.
- Implements the lighting and sound for events, special events and concerts in the venue.
- Supervises and trains the crew of hourly employees.
