State Reporting and Compliance Accountant
Position Summary
The primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (EHRA).
This position serves as an integral member of the Controllers Office and supports the Controller in the administration of essential accounting, financial reporting, and compliance functions for the University. The position is responsible for coordinating month-end close activities and ensuring timely Office of the State Controller certification, preparing the Universitys 1099 reporting, performing general ledger and operating fund reconciliations, conducting compliance testing, and assisting with the preparation of financial schedules and specialized reports for University leadership.
In addition, this position monitors state funds, supports recodes and cash transfers, and collaborates closely with the Budget Office, Capital, and campus stakeholders to promote accurate, compliant, and effective financial operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of accounting and reconciliation practices
- Ability to prepare financial reports and regulatory filings
- Knowledge of compliance testing and financial controls
- Ability to manage deadlines and work collaboratively with campus partners
Minimum Qualifications
- Interested candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employment sponsorship or any other immigration-related assistance.
- Masters degree in Accounting or related field and 2-4 years of experience or Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field and 3-5 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed as a CPA in North Carolina
- Previous accounting experience in higher education
- Knowledge of GASB
- Experience with Banner Finance
