Posting Context Statement:

The Center on Disabilities and Human Development (CDHD) is an independent unit within the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. It is supported through a federal infrastructure grant and numerous projects funded through sponsored accounts. The CDHD improves the lives of people with disabilities and their families by educating an interdisciplinary workforce, providing community-based training and technical assistance, conducting research, providing direct services, and disseminating evidence-based information.

Position Overview:

The Statewide Coordinator (SC) will provide face-to-face, online, and virtual training and technical assistance (TA) to families, service providers, and agency personnel to improve services and outcomes for children birth through 21 with deafblindness.

This position will work alongside the Associate Director of the Center on Disabilities and Human Development to implement the goals and objectives of the Idaho Project for Children and Youth with Deaf-Blindness Grant (IPCYD). The IPCYD will partner with national and statewide disability agencies and programs to collaborate on federal and state disability activities, statutes, and policies.

Required Experience:

  • Five years of experience in public education, teaching special education, providing state-level technical special education technical assistance focused on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C or Part B, or working for a State Deafblind Project funded through the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSEP) with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part D
  • Direct work with students with deafblindness
  • Direct work with students with low-incidence disabilities
  • Writing/supporting an Individual Education Program (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP)

Required Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in Education

Required Other:

  • Must currently possess or obtain within one year: Membership with the Council for Exceptional Children- Division of Visual Impairments and Deaf blindness (DVIDB)

Additional Preferred:

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or related degree

EXPERIENCE:

  • Eight years of experience in public education, teaching special education, providing state-level technical special education technical assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C or Part B, or working for a State Deafblind Project funded through the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSEP) with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part D
  • Expertise in working with students with deafblindness in instruction, communication and mobility
  • Collaborating with outside agencies
  • Providing professional development or training to Local Education Agencies (LEA) that have children with deafblindness
  • Providing technical assistance to families who have children with deafblindness
