Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of TRIO Programs, the TRIO Student Support Services STEM Coordinator will be responsible for advising, counseling, tracking, developing and leading four-year college and university transfer visits, and leading small group activities for under-prepared and disadvantaged college students who qualify as SSS STEM participants. The STEM Coordinator will also work under the general direction of the TRIO SSS Senior Project Coordinator. A primary focus of this position is to improve the retention of and support the academic program completion of first-generation and/or low-income students who become participants of the RRCC Student Support Services STEM Project. This position will support the monitoring and assessment of STEM Project participants including the Annual Performance Report required by the U.S. Department of Education.
This position is supported by a federally funded TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) five-year grant. Employment is contingent upon the continuation of grant funding and annual budgetary approval.
The work schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Fridays 8:00am to 4:00pm. May require hours outside of regular office hours. May require work at both campuses. May require travel between campuses.

Competencies/KSAs
- Knowledge of the academic setting and college financial aid processes.
- Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, Internet, and databases.
- Work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and keep deadlines.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to interpret and apply administrative policies, regulations, and rules.
- Ability to make decisions requiring considerable independent judgment and compose correspondence independently.
- Ability to work from campus (mainly our Lakewood Campus location, with occasional hours at our Arvada Campus)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Higher Education Student Affairs, or related field.
- Two (2) years of experience counseling/advising students.
- A combination of work experience and education may be combined to meet the education and experience requirement.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities and supporting individuals from diverse populations, which may include but are not limited to, racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Higher Education Student Affairs, or related field.
- Three (3) years of experience counseling/advising students.
- Experience supporting STEM students and/or STEM focused programming
- Experience working in a TRIO program or similar.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish/English)
- Having overcome similar barriers and/or come from similar backgrounds to the target population for the SSS Project.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
