STOC Steam Plant Operator (On-Call)

Ability to operate and maintain Biomass and Natural Gas Boilers and controls, fans, pumps, and similar equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform all work in a prompt, neat, and careful manner that displays common sense, planning and thoughtfulness.
  
  
• Maintain tools, equipment, and mechanical areas in a neat and clean condition.
  
  
• Work in a positive, cooperative manner with other departmental personnel and the Colby community.
  
  
• To notify and / or obtain advice from the Engineer in Charge or call for assistance as may be appropriate in any situation.
  
  
• Test condition of the boiler water as directed.
  
  
• Read and record steam plant data hourly.
  
  
• Monitor, record, and control opacity emissions in accordance with Colby directives and the State of Maine DEP and federal regulations.
  
  
• Operate, change, and clean burners.
  
  
• Operate soot blowers.
  
  
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and other repairs as directed.
  
  
• Perform all other task, and duties as directed by the Engineer in Charge
  
  

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

General indoor and outdoor campus environment. Duties require that employees interact with students, faculty and staff.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Position involves some sitting, though frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and considerable lifting is often required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand wrist motion is also necessary. Ability to enter confined spaces per Colby safety polices.

STANDARDS:

Employee will be required to dress and conduct themselves appropriately in accordance with Colby College polices.
