FLSA Status: Non-Exempt = overtime eligible

Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.

Salary: Targeted Salary Range: $42,000-$44,900

Travel: Less than 10%

Brief Statement of Duties: Work collaboratively with the greater SPN team to ensure the day-to-day needs of the SPN initiative are met. Coordinate logistics to implement professional development training for NMU staff; serve as liaison between academic programs and Indian Country to create and facilitate implementation of high-impact-practice-experiences (HIPEs); promote established HIPEs to NMU students; establish and implement on-going Native-centered wellness activities; develop SPN informational/promotional campaign and recruitment materials including upkeep of SPN social media channels; recruit throughout Indian Country to attract new students to NMU; and work with the SPN team and SPN external evaluator on data collection, stewardship, and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:

  • Ability to apply servant-leadership ethics while working collaboratively with various groups.
  • Ability to design, implement, and host a range of activities and events (i.e. trainings, workshops).
  • Ability to compose reports that convey successes, challenges, and needs.
  • Ability to drive or travel to stakeholder locations throughout Indian country.
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal communication (verbal, written, electronic, etc.) and public speaking skills.
  • Effective project coordination, time management, and personal motivation skills.
  • Experience hosting/running virtual meetings on various platforms (i.e. Zoom, etc.).
  • Experience with following direction, taking initiative, and asking questions.
  • Experience working with Indigenous cultures.
  • Experience applying Indigenous frameworks in work and/or educational settings.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Native American/Indigenous Studies, Education, Social Work, or related fields.
  • Completed undergraduate certification in Native American Education.
  • Completed college coursework in Native American studies.
  • Completed internships working with Native Nation enterprises or intertribal organizations (i.e. GLIFWC, GLITC, etc.).
  • Ability to apply Indigenous ways of knowing to implement SPN Initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous-centered frameworks (e.g. Shawn Wilson's (2008) framework of 'relationality and relational accountability').
  • Experience and/or knowledge specific to developing reciprocal relationships across institutions, organizations, and/or communities.
  • Knowledge of culturally sensitive/culturally respectful data collection and stewardship.
  • Personal and/or professional experience working with Native American college students.
  • Experience with audience-centered message design.
  • Teaching or training experience.
