The Stromlo Fellow will undertake independent research in radio astronomy. They will lead by example in developing and maintaining effective, productive and beneficial workplace relationships with all academic and professional School and College staff, as well as students and other stakeholders.
The Stromlo Fellow in Radio Astronomy will be a research focused position for an initial 5-year period after which the position will transition to a teaching and research role.
The Person
To excel in this role you will have:
- A PhD in astronomy and astrophysics or a related area.
- A record of leading independent individual and collaborative radio astronomy research activities.
- A track record of successfully supervising and graduating high quality PhD, Masters or undergraduate research students.
- A record of winning bids for competitive external funding to support individual and collaborative research activities.
- Excellent oral and written English language skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively.
The Area
The ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) operates Australia’s national optical observatory and has access to the world’s largest optical telescopes.
Our staff and students have made major contributions to astronomy, mapping the structure and formation of the Milky Way, discovering planets orbiting other stars, measuring dark matter both within our Galaxy and in the wider Universe, and discovering the accelerating expansion of the Universe. Our astronomers include winners of the Prime Minister’s Prize for Science and the Nobel Prize.
Our main campus is at Mount Stromlo Observatory where we host the Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre, a national facility established to support the development of the next generation of instruments for astronomy and space science.
