Located in Ōtautahi | Christchurch, Aotearoa | New Zealand

  • Fixed-Term position until 5 May 2028
  • 37.5 hours per week

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

As a Student Advisor within Te Kaupeka Pūtaiao | Faculty of Science, you will provide accurate, timely academic advice and enrolment support to current and prospective students. You will help students navigate programme requirements, course selections, academic regulations, and administrative processes to ensure they are well positioned for success.

Working closely with the Academic Services Manager, Associate Dean (Academic), and programme coordinators, you will contribute to monitoring student progress and supporting academic processes. You will achieve this by:

  • Providing degree planning, course advice, and enrolment guidance to students.
  • Interpreting and applying university regulations, policies, and procedures to support student decisions.
  • Supporting academic progress processes and identifying students who may need additional guidance.
  • Liaising with academic staff and support services to resolve complex student enquiries.
  • Assisting with administrative processes such as credit transfers, exemptions, enrolment approvals, and programme planning.
  • Maintaining accurate student records and using university systems to document advice and outcomes.
  • Contributing to initiatives that improve student retention, progression, and completion.

Mōu | Who You Are

You will have strong communication and organisational skills with a genuine commitment to student success.

Ideally you will have:

  • 3–4 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within tertiary education.
  • Strong knowledge of policy interpretation, student processes, or academic administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • The ability to manage high workloads, competing priorities, and tight deadlines.
  • Confidence using administrative and student management systems and MS Office.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
