Student Affairs Case Manager - Clinical, Counseling and Psychological Services
Job Summary
Coordinates preventative and remedial clinical case management services to support students and improve functioning and well-being. Advocates in campus and community systems to reduce barriers that impede student success. Responsible for providing clinical services for a wide variety of presenting problems, including eating disorders, autism spectrum disorder, complex mental health, trauma, and/or crisis. Facilitates higher level of care referrals and transition back to campus, as needed. Manages treatment needs, makes treatment recommendations, coordinates care, and maintains knowledge of on and off-campus resources.
Department Specific Tasks and Responsibilities
- Utilize knowledge and assessment of mental health needs to assist with or facilitate referrals to off-campus community resources when the student needs are beyond the clinical scope of practice for Counseling and Psychological Services. Services referrals may include direct psychiatric admissions, neurodivergent disordered eating treatment, outpatient and longterm mental health services, health services, legal services, and/or social services
- Provide immediate support and intervention for students in a mental health crisis, including assessing risk of harm to self or others, including involuntary commitment for a 72-hour hold for crisis stabilization. Also utilize community-based 24/7 crisis intervention services as needed
- Engage in ongoing communication and follow-up with students and external medical, mental health, and substance abuse providers to assure continuity of care/service and completion of scheduled appointments
- Provide brief counseling services with a broad range of presenting needs including high-risk concerns such as co-occurring medical and mental health needs, functional and socioeconomic limitation
Key Responsibilities
- Provides case planning and coordination of care across multiple disciplines
- Provides direct services to KSU students
- Processes incoming and outgoing medical records requests
- Facilitates off-campus referrals
- Partners with community providers to develop the off-campus referral database
- Provides crisis intervention and after-hours emergency on-call coverage when scheduled or needed
- Provides outreach and consultation to the campus community
- Facilitates hospitalizations and returns to campus
- Supervises graduate student trainees
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in counseling, psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license
Required Experience
Three (3) years, including internships, providing case management services, working in a community mental health context, and/or a crisis response setting
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Independent licensure (e.g. LPC, LCSW, or LMFT)
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Ph.D. from an accredited institution of higher education in Clinical/Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or Counselor Education and Supervision
Preferred Experience
Experience with electronic health record systems

ABILITIES
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one-time meeting assigned deadlines
Ability to work collaboratively with mental health professionals, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to ensure student safety and wellbeing.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of mental health issues in higher education
Familiar with local treatment options and providers
Knowledge of professional, national, and state ethical guidelines
Proficiency in suicide and homicide assessment protocols, including risk evaluation, intervention strategies, and appropriate referral processes.
Strong knowledge and experience developing and implementing crisis management plans tailored to individual student needs.
Strong knowledge of mental health resources and support systems available within and outside the university.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, Desktop Publishing software)
Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette

This role is considered a position of trust.

This position may travel 1% - 24% of the time
