Student Assistant-Equipment Maintenance Helper 2026-2027
Primary Responsibilities
Student will upkeep and assist with equipment maintenance for the Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University.
Primary duties include:
- Communicate fleet and equipment maintenance and repair needs to BRI administrative staff.
- Perform minor maintenance and repair, as approved, on BRI fleet, including vehicles, OHVs, and trailers, etc.
- Coordinate with BRI staff to outsource fleet maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of field equipment in support of research and operations.
- Assist with upkeep and cleanliness of storage barn and shop area.
- Ensure fleet maintenance and repair logs are updated and accurate (oil changes, tire rotations, outsourced repair details, etc.).
- Ensure all vehicle and trailer registrations are up to date (keep log updated).
- Ensure all vehicles are clean upon return.
- Assist with periodic cleaning and organization of on-board essentials of vehicles.
- Periodically start and idle ATVs/UTVs to ensure in good condition.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision: Reports to the Associate Director of Operations, Borderlands Research Institute.
