Student Assistant
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant within the Department of Oral Biology at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM).
Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Student Assistant will investigate the role of lactoferrin as a modulator of oral microbial dysbiosis and inflammation in the context of Alzheimer's disease. The goal of this research is to advance understanding of the microbiome-neuroinflammation axis and to identify potential microbiome-targeted interventions for age-related neurological conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Oral sample processing and microbial DNA extraction.
- 16S rRNA library preparation and coordination of sequencing.
- Microbiome data analysis (with bioinformatics core support).
- Statistical correlation of microbial data with clinical parameters (bone loss, weight).
- Optional qPCR and cytokine profiling.
- Thesis writing, data presentation, and final defense preparation.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Currently enrolled in Master's Program in Biomedical Sciences at Rutgers University with experience in the life science field.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing.
- No special vision requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Lab environment with moderate noise.
- Hazardous chemicals are used in the lab.
Salary: $9000 MAX
