"Student Assistant (Research, Part-Time)"

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant (Research) for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology & Medicine (CABM) within Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS). The primary purpose of the Student Assistant (Research) is to conduct a research project focused on studies of the role of urea as a nutrient for the cultivation of the beneficial microbes of the human microbiome. This work involves the use of parallel plating in microtiter wells of combinations of nutrients and bacterial cells, using multiplate readers. This research assistantship is intended for a Rutgers Master of Science in Biomedical Science (MSBS) student. This is a valuable opportunity for the student to deepen their research engagement and contribute significantly to important research projects within the laboratory.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Conducts studies of the role of urea as a nutrient for the cultivation of the beneficial microbes of the human microbiome.
• Performs research studies using parallel plating in microtiter wells of combinations of nutrients and bacterial cells, using multiplate readers.
• As assigned, performs various research and technical procedures.
• Conducts literature reviews and other research reviews as needed.
• Accurately documents all experimental results.
• Attends and participates in regular lab meetings, as well as laboratory safety and project-specific trainings.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience: Current Rutgers Student Enrolled as a student in the Rutgers Master of Science in Biomedical Science (MSBS) graduate program.

Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, talking, listening and reading. Manual dexterity and vision sufficient for standard laboratory operations including pipetting and use of microscopes.

Work Environment: Laboratory environment. Universal precautions are mandatory.

Salary: $16/hour
