Job Description
We are seeking a full-time undergraduate student associate for the summer semester to join our research group in bioinformatics and computational biology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Our lab develops AI-driven methods for protein structure analysis, protein–protein interaction prediction, protein function annotation, biomedical text mining, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) agents. Current projects focus on large-scale biological data integration, semantic search over protein knowledge resources, and machine learning systems for extracting functional insights from sequence, structural, and literature-derived data.
This position involves the generation and processing of large-scale datasets, data mining, large data analysis, and development of machine learning workflows for biological and text-based applications. Student associate will contribute to projects involving text embeddings, semantic search, vector-based retrieval systems, and Python/Jupyter notebook development, while also supporting computational pipelines for biological sequence and structural datasets. The work provides hands-on exposure to modern AI methods applied to real-world biomedical research problems.
The ideal candidate should be proficient in Python programming and comfortable working in Jupyter notebooks, with prior experience in data analysis and basic machine learning workflows. Familiarity with text embeddings, semantic search, or NLP-style vector retrieval methods is highly desirable. Experience working in Linux, HPC cluster, or cloud environments is a strong plus. A GitHub portfolio or repository demonstrating coding projects is highly encouraged and will be considered an advantage.
