Responsibilities
- Facilitating a college success seminar (SLS 1261) course and providing the primary instruction for all incoming student-athletes.
- Serving as a Learning Specialist for assigned student-athletes.
- Designing lesson plans for student athletes in collaboration with campus and athletic partners.
- Supporting the academic endeavors of all student-athletes by implementing educational measures designed by the director of educational services, targeting specifically those student-athletes deemed most at risk, including those diagnosed with mild to moderate learning disabilities.
- Coordinating the mentor program including the recruitment, training, and development of academic mentors within Student-athlete Academic Services.
- Assisting in implementing a systematic, but individualized approach to student-athlete development.
- Meeting regularly (weekly, bi-weekly, or tri-weekly) with at-risk student-athletes to monitor their academic progress and employment of educational strategies.
- Collaborating with Student-Athlete Academic Services staff members to ensure transparency and to develop a holistic approach for student-athlete academic development.
- Presenting educational workshops for student-athletes.
- Assisting student-athletes in receiving educational accommodations as awarded through the Office of Accessibility Services.
- Assisting student-athletes in developing short and long-term goals, improving coping skills, and developing intrinsic motivation.
- Performing educational screening for learning disabilities, scheduling educational testing for learning disabilities, attending educational testing feedback sessions, and developing and implementing educational plans based on test recommendations.
- Maintaining detailed records and paperwork associated with the educational plans for at-risk student-athletes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in sport management or a closely related degree and 2 years (24 mo) of work experience supporting student-athletes at the NCAA Division 1 level. In the alternative, the employer will accept a master’s degree in sport management or a closely related degree and 0 years of work experience supporting student-athletes at the NCAA Division 1 level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in supporting student-athletes at the NCAA Division 1 level.
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply NCAA and ACC rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
- Ability to provide subject matter expertise related to supporting student athletes and counsel others.
- Ability to represent the University in the appointed area of student athletes as required.
