The Faculty of Medicine – Dunedin (FOM – D) is part of the University of Otago Faculty of Medicine, established in 1875, and is New Zealand's first medical school. Our medical students undertake three years' of study in Dunedin, before completing their clinical placements in Dunedin, Christchurch or Wellington regions. The FOM-D region hosts approximately 950 medical students and 500 academic, research, and professional staff. The Dean's Office is the administrative centre for Faculty of Medicine - Dunedin, for both academic and non-academic matters.
Te mahi | The role
As the Student Care Coordinator, you’ll be the first point of contact for wellbeing for medical students of the Faculty of Medicine - Dunedin, providing responsive, compassionate, and effective coordination of support to students in the medical (MB ChB) programme across the Dunedin campus and regional locations.
You will be responsible for coordinating the monitoring of student academic progress and pastoral care, supporting a wider team to recognise trends or issues that may require further attention or escalation. Collaborating closely with university and health system teams, clinical and teaching staff, and external partners, you will take a holistic approach to coordinating students’ individual requirements to succeed.
You will also play a key role in designing and delivering wellbeing initiatives, workshops, and resources that foster a positive and supportive student experience.

You will bring experience in student or client support or pastoral care, along with a qualification relevant to pastoral care, social work, counselling, or academic progress. You are an exceptional communicator with a compassionate, person-centred approach, committed to creating a coordinated experience for every student. You handle sensitive information with the highest integrity, adhering to established policies and processes, and have a good understanding of confidentiality and privacy matters. You can explain complex procedures in a clear, accessible way, adapting your approach to meet the expectations of your audience.
Successful candidates will also have:
• Experience of working inclusively with people.
• A calm, diplomatic, non-judgemental and tactful manner, especially in high pressure situations.
• Strong relationship-building skills (whakawhanaukataka) - ability to enhance individual mana.
• Flexible, adaptable, and professional approach.
• In-depth knowledge of local community support networks and agencies.
• Strong understanding of the Education Code of Practice 2021.
• Competency in cultural safety aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Membership of a relevant professional body.

This is a permanent on site, full-time (37.5 hours per week), position located in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.
The appointment range for this role is $75,631 to $80,503, Top of Range $88,750.
