We are looking for up to 2 casual candidates to work up to approx. 7 hours per week or a single candidate to work up to approx. 14 hours per week.

Position Summary:

The Student Content Assistant (Level 2) provides support to the Student Information and Communications team to create written and visual content for students to be distributed on a range of channels including email, web and social media. You may be supporting with the development of visual communications assets (such as templates, digital screens and digital banners). The Student Content Assistant reports to the Student Communications Officer.

This opportunity will be opened to current UNSW students only.

This role will:

  • Create original video and image content for Instagram that showcase the UNSW student experience, campus vibrancy, trending topics and UNSW initiatives, featuring in videos/photos where necessary.
  • Contribute to video-based content with a strong, distinctive student voice. Assist in monitoring performance of content, by observing changes and trends on social media platforms and reporting these observations back to the Student Communications Officer.
  • Provide additional content & communications support including drafting copy for newsletters, web notices and features and a range of other student communications channels.
  • Assist in testing new methods of engaging with UNSW’s student audience and help adjust the execution of content, learning from results.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct and Values.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:

  • Current UNSW student. A marketing, communication or digital media-related degree or experience is desirable but not required.
  • Highly motivated and outgoing, with a passion for university life and the educational experience at UNSW. Have broad knowledge of UNSW including academic, extra-curricular activities, support structures, as well as understanding of student concerns and cross-cultural issues.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to follow direction and procedures and perform tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to execute video and audio production using low-fi technology (eg. a smart phone).
  • Awareness of changes and trends on Instagram (or similar platforms), and an understanding of in-platform features is desirable
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
