Basic Function:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Student Life, the Student Engagement Coordinator develops and implements initiatives, programs, and processes that promote student involvement, leadership development, and a comprehensive co-curricular student experience in alignment with the mission of California Lutheran University.

The Student Engagement Coordinator advises and supports the Associated Students of California Lutheran University (ASCLUG), including Senate and Programs Board, and provides guidance to student clubs and organizations. The position also oversees the planning and implementation of major campus-wide programming, including large-scale traditions such as Homecoming Week, Foodie Fridays.

The Student Engagement Coordinator enhances student engagement by creating opportunities for leadership development, campus involvement, and educational programming that support Cal Lutheran Student Learning Outcomes.

Representative Duties:

  • Advise student government branches, including Senate and Programs Board, providing guidance on governance processes, leadership development, budgeting, event planning, and effective student representation. E
  • Attend all Senate & Programs Board meetings and events. E
  • Oversee student club registration, recognition, and training. E
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate student workers supporting student engagement initiatives and student organization programming. E
  • Develop and facilitate leadership development and training opportunities for student government leaders, club officers, and student organization leaders. E
  • Manage and implement major student programs and events, including planning logistics, coordinating campus partners, managing event approvals, and overseeing event execution. E
  • Ensure student events and programs comply with university policies, event management procedures, and risk management practices. E
  • Maintain accurate records related to budgets, event policies, program participation, and program outcomes. E
  • Support the oversight and stewardship of student programming budgets and student government allocations. E
  • Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies to promote student engagement opportunities, including management of websites, social media, and campus communication channels. E
  • Track participation and engagement data to inform program development and evaluate the effectiveness of student engagement initiatives. E
  • Facilitate assessment of student programs and initiatives to evaluate effectiveness and support continuous improvement of programming efforts. E
  • Collaborate with campus partners to promote inclusive engagement opportunities that foster a sense of belonging and connection to the university community. E
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal and external constituents, including vendors, artists, speakers, performers, and campus partners, to coordinate events and execute contracts and agreements. E
  • Stay informed of current CLU, regional, and national trends regarding student leadership, involvement, and campus activities. E
  • Maintain visibility, availability, and approachability to students to promote engagement and open communication with the student community. E
  • Maintain communication with the direct supervisor regarding programs, processes, and events. E
  • Assist students with academic, personal, and social concerns by providing support and making appropriate referrals to campus offices and resources. E
  • Support division-wide Student Affairs initiatives, events, and programs. E
  • Serve on university and Student Affairs committees as assigned. E
  • Assist in general problem-solving and participate in campus response efforts during emergency or crises when appropriate. E
  • Contribute to the overall work of the Office of Student Life and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Work independently and exercise sound judgement with minimal supervision.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Organize and manage projects with attention to detail.
  • Deliver effective presentations to various-sized groups.
  • Plan and execute large-scale programs and events.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Drive to conduct work.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination equivalent to: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, and one year of experience (e.g., graduate assistantship) working with student government, large-scale event planning, clubs and organizations, or related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master's degree in a related field is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to and successful experience working in diverse, multicultural, and multi-racial communities. Experience advising student organizations, student government, or campus programming boards preferred.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

Valid California Driver's License for occasional job-related travel which may include driving students.

Physical Abilities:

Detect to understand appropriate written correspondence; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; communicate to exchange information in person, in writing, on the telephone and by email; stationary position for extended periods of time; move or transport light objects; position self to store and/or retrieve files.

Working Environment:

Busy office environment with frequent interruptions. Evening hours required. Some weekend hours are required. Some travel is required, including driving a vehicle to conduct university business. Indoor and outdoor work environment. Occasional contact with dissatisfied individuals.

Hiring Range

$26.00-$27.50
