Student Hourly-Entry Level IT Technician

Position Overview

The IT Help Desk is dedicated to fostering and strengthening relationships within the KU community. We achieve this by providing timely and accurate information in every interaction, ensuring that each user receives the support they need—even when the information may not be what they expect or want to hear.

100% - Campus Technology Support:

  • Provide frontline technical support by triaging and responding to incoming requests via phone, email, in-person, and chat, ensuring prompt and effective assistance.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows devices, supporting services offered by KU IT and other campus partners.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality by adhering to all federal regulations (including FERPA) and departmental policies related to account and data protection.
  • Document support activities by creating and updating service tickets with clear, detailed notes to ensure accurate tracking and timely resolution.
  • Assist with departmental initiatives, including special projects, administrative reporting, and additional duties assigned by leadership.
  • Support personal and university-provided devices, delivering high-quality technical assistance to enhance the user experience across campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous customer service experience demonstrating professionalism and a strong commitment to user support.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving abilities, including the skill to ask clear, targeted, and effective questions as evidenced by application materials.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced through application materials and experience.
  • Availability to work mornings and afternoons, with some evening and weekend shifts required, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work at least 10 hours per week during the academic semester as evidenced by application materials, with opportunities to work up to 20 hours based on student preference and staffing needs.
