Department Summary
The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology advances our knowledge of life on earth at the cellular and molecular levels. Our mission is to educate the next generation of scholars, professionals, and citizens of the world by fully integrating our students into cutting-edge research activities, including hands-on participation in the process of scientific discovery. Our faculty conducts research with a variety of models including Arabidopsis, Drosophila, zebrafish, mouse and stem cells to address the most pressing problems in biology, health and sustainability.
Position Summary
The Department of Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology (MCDB) is seeking a collaborative, organized, and student-focused professional to help support our graduate program. As the Graduate Student Affairs Officer, you will contribute to creating a positive and enriching academic experience for our graduate students—assisting with advising, program coordination, and faculty collaboration on academic initiatives. In this role, you’ll provide support for graduate admissions, track student progress, and assist with planning student events. You will also help with the recruitment and hiring of TAs and Readers, ensuring compliance with university policies. Working closely with the department’s Chief Administrative Officer and Student Services Supervisor, you’ll provide information and assistance for managing budgets related to graduate funding. Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications
- 2+ years Academic advising and counseling (Preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing to a diverse constituency. (Required)
- Familiarity with Summer Session policy and programs, with the ability to locate and interpret relevant guidelines. (Preferred)
- Ability to create logical and consistent paper and electronic filing systems. (Required)
- Knowledge of policies and procedures governing graduate admissions and study at the University of California. (Preferred)
- Ability to write clearly and for designated purposes. (Required)
- Demonstrated skill in advising students on complex information, difficult conditions, and providing multiple options. (Required)
- Ability to hold records, examinations, and other materials in complete confidence; knowledge of privacy regulations. (Required)
- Demonstrated skill in using spreadsheet and other database software to create analyses, reports, records, and other material. (Required)
- Ability to follow established administrative procedures and assist in refining processes for efficiency. (Required)
- Knowledge of policy and procedure governing interdepartmental program student and academic affairs program administration. (Preferred)
- Skill in preparing and maintaining budget records and assisting with cost tracking. (Required)
- Ability to assist in researching and compiling statistical, narrative, and other information, and in preparing reports under established parameters. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Bachelor's Degree In related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Required)
