STUDENT TRANSLATOR
TRUMAN COLLEGE

Truman College is currently seeking a Student Translator to assist the Adult Education Department during registration (August 4, 2025 - August 23, 2025). Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Student Translator converts one language to another for students, faculty and staff in order for concepts and ideas to be exchanged between languages and cultures. Translation may be written or verbal.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• May serve as a simultaneous interpreter or consecutive interpreter.
• Conveys the exact message as opposed to summarizing the information in a way that is subjective.
• Maintains confidentiality in all matters as it relates to information being interpreted.
• Accurately translates to the English language.
• Attends training sessions as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago
• Fluency in the language being translated.
• Ability to demonstrate accuracy in interpretation skills.
• Excellent oral communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and demonstrably self-motivated.
• Ability to work with diverse populations from various economic backgrounds and age groups.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and eligible to work in the United States
• Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago
• Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit semester hours
• Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate
• Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA
• Applicants must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions
• Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago
• All positions are “employment at-will”

The salary is: $17.00/hour

The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
