Student Work-Study - IT Department

Student work-study employees in the IT department will assist with a variety of tasks, including providing first-level technical support for hardware, software, and network issues. They will help set up and maintain devices, ensure classroom technology like A/V systems and other equipment are operational, and provide support for college-sponsored events. Additionally, they may assist with administrative duties such as updating IT documentation, managing equipment inventory, and logging support tickets. This role offers hands-on experience with practical IT operations in an academic setting.
Technical Support
- Assisting students, faculty and staff with basic troubleshooting for hardware (e.g., computers, printers, projectors).
- Providing first-level support for software issues (e.g., login problems, application errors).
- Answering basic IT-related questions in person, over the phone, or via email.
Device Setup and Maintenance
- Setting up and configuring new workstations or laptops.
- Installing software updates and security patches under IT supervision.
- Testing classroom or lab equipment to ensure functionality (e.g., audiovisual setups).
- Keeping track of equipment, such as pcs, projectors or cameras.
Help Desk Support
- Logging IT support tickets and following up with users.
- Escalating more complex issues to senior IT staff.
- Troubleshooting printer issues & replacing toner
Network and Systems
- Assisting with Wi-Fi connection issues for students and staff.
- Monitoring lab or classroom computers for unauthorized usage.
- Helping to document network layouts or updating inventory records.
Classroom Support
- Setting up and troubleshooting A/V systems for lectures, presentations, or events.
- Supporting hybrid or virtual class sessions by managing webcams, microphones, and screens.
- Ensuring equipment (e.g., green screens, editing stations) is operational for classes or projects.
Administrative Tasks
- Updating IT documentation, FAQs, or knowledge base articles.
- Maintaining inventory records for IT assets.
- Assisting with data entry or simple reporting tasks using IT tools.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Able to lift 40 pounds and stand on ladders
- Good written and verbal English language skills
- Pursuing an IT educational path.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Must have completed FAFSA on file
- Must be enrolled in a minimum six (6) credit hours
- Must NOT have yet obtained 1st Bachelor's Degree
- Must be seeking an eligible program of study
