"Student Worker - Natural and Physical Sciences"

Job Summary

To provide support to the faculty and staff in the Department of Natural and Physical Sciences

Principal Accountabilities

• Assist with setting up and taking down labs.
• Work with hazardous chemicals in a safe environment while using personal protective equipment.
• Prepare chemical solutions and dilutions necessary for laboratory exercises.
• Clean and maintain glassware.
• Organize, clean, and maintain laboratory areas.
• Assist in maintaining laboratory preparations.
• Assist in autoclaving with supervision.
• Assist faculty when requested.
• Assist Laboratory Coordinator with additional assigned tasks

Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications

1. You must have been awarded Federal Work Study (financial aid) and satisfy the enrollment requirements for this position.
2. Applicant must be available to work at least 15 hours a week.

Minimum Competencies

1. Must be enrolled as a full time student for the semester you are applying for
2. General knowledge of the laboratory environment

Preferred Qualifications

1. At least one science course or AP course taken at the college level/high school
2. Laboratory experience acquired through course work or workforce.
3. Be enrolled in or have taken a college level chemistry course

Special Notes To Applicants

Must be able to work between 15 to 19 hours per week (19 Max), between the hours of 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday

Applicant must be able to walk, stand, climb stairways and step ladders, bend, reach above the shoulder and perform repetitive tasks with hands and arms. This position also requires heavy lifting and pushing (45 to 70 lbs.).

Length of employment: semester by semester

Maximum of 19 hours per week.
