Student Worker Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be off for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution, you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

Job Description

Minneapolis College is seeking a part-time, limited Student Worker Paraprofessional in the TRIO Educational Opportunity Center. This position provides support to the Trio EOC Director, coordinator, staff and participants in areas of providing check-in services to new and current students, intake, data collections and entry. Direct services provided to participants, recruit new participants. Develop outreach materials and support staff presenting at workshops and staffing tabling events.

This position may be eligible for partial telework according to the Minneapolis College’s telework guidelines.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist students with Intake and check in process in Educational Opportunity Center.
  • Research and provide referrals to appropriate advisors for career, admissions, financial aid, college choice, defaulted loans, or other concerns that may present a barrier to attending a college.
  • Enter and maintain accurate records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of TRIO EOC as a welcoming advocate of equity in education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program.
  • If the student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution he or she must be carrying at least six semester (nine quarter) credits.
  • If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, the student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter.
  • Correspondence or GED classes will generally not satisfy enrollment criteria.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including telephone, scheduling, intake.
  • Experience with diverse low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with good organizational and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with computer technology including Microsoft Office, e-mail, on-line databases, and internet.
  • Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency, incorporates culturally responsive practices, and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Be a TRIO alumnus, current participant, or someone who would have qualified for participation
  • Possess prior experience with TRIO EOC programs

Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)

Monday and Wednesday 10am – 5pm

Fridays 10am - 4 pm

(subject to school schedule - total of 20 hours)

Telework

May be eligible for partial telework according to the Minneapolis College’s telework guidelines.
