Compensation for this position is expected to range be $25.00 per hour, in alignment with what California Baptist University (CBU) reasonably anticipates paying for this role. The final rate may vary depending on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and prevailing market conditions. Position Summary
The Studio Manager for the College of Architecture, Visual Arts & Design (CAVAD) provides technical, operational, and programmatic support for studio spaces, equipment, and production facilities. This role oversees daily studio operations, supports students, faculty, and staff, manages equipment and inventory, and assists with events and exhibitions. The Studio Manager fosters a safe, organized, and creative environment while supporting the quality and excellence of Visual Arts and Design programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a visible, approachable, and supportive presence across all Visual Arts and Design studios, including photography and film studios, equipment rooms, and darkroom facilities.
- Oversee and support the daily operations of studio spaces, ensuring adherence to safe, efficient, and professional practices.
- Train, mentor, and provide day-to-day direction to student workers in collaboration with CAVAD leadership, faculty, and staff.
- Provide technical support and manage equipment operations, including checkout, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cameras, lighting, and related equipment.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures for studio and equipment use.
- Assist in the installation, organization, and presentation of Fine Art and Photography exhibitions and galleries.
- Support the coordination and production of academic, co-curricular, and program-related events, exhibitions, and projects.
- Maintain inventory systems and assist with the organization and upkeep of equipment and supplies across Visual Arts and Design programs.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for studio operations, equipment use, and event-related inquiries.
- Identify, document, and report safety concerns or urgent issues; assist with emergency response as needed.
- Support CAVAD marketing and communications through the production and post-production of photography, video, and design assets as directed.

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to develop and maintain documentation such as training materials, inventory reports, and operational procedures.
Education and/or Experience
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and possess one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Preferred qualifications include experience working in a higher education or academic studio environment, familiarity with photography, film, or design studio operations, and the ability to train or mentor student employees. A strong understanding of studio safety practices and equipment maintenance is also highly valued, supporting effective and safe operation of creative and technical spaces.
