Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Supervising Technician - Fabrication Workshop to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Engineering.

QUT Faculty of Engineering are seeking an experienced Supervising Technician – Fabrication Workshop to lead and coordinate our Fabrication Workshop technical team. This role plays a key part in delivering safe, high-quality technical services that underpin world-class teaching and research, with responsibility for workshop operations, specialist equipment, and team capability. You will work collaboratively across the faculty, providing leadership, guidance and professional development within a strong safety and service culture.

The Supervising Technician – Fabrication Workshop provides operational management of, and leadership for, the Fabrication Workshop Technical Team. The position sits within the broader Technical Services and Space Team, within the Faculty of Engineering..

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of a degree qualification, in conjunction with relevant experience in supervising technical teams.
  2. Demonstrated ability to build, lead and coordinate an effective team, including monitoring performance, providing feedback, allocating workload, and identifying training needs.
  3. Well-developed interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective working partnerships at all levels of an organisation, including with individuals whose first language is other than English.
  4. Demonstrate ability to display initiative, contribute new ideas and proactively contribute to the development of a thriving team culture.
  5. Proven ability to effectively prioritise workload to meet competing deadlines and manage an allocated budget.
  6. Proven ability to provide a strong focus on health, safety and the environment while maintaining client deliverables.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
