Your Role on the Team
Position Summary:
The Supervisor, Lab Services Float Pool is responsible for the direct frontline supervision, daily workflow coordination, and operational oversight of lab services float pool coworkers across assigned laboratory disciplines, facilities, and service areas. The incumbent is accountable for ensuring adequate staffing coverage across laboratory departments in alignment with departmental policies, clinical standards, and all applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including The Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, and applicable state and federal regulations. This role serves as the primary operational resource for float pool coworkers during the assigned shift or designated area of coverage, and is responsible for the appropriate assignment of coworkers based on demonstrated competency, patient care needs, and operational demand across all covered areas. The Supervisor supports the onboarding, orientation, and multi-discipline training of new float pool coworkers, conducts ongoing competency monitoring, delivers real-time coaching and feedback, and initiates corrective action as warranted in alignment with organizational policy. The incumbent identifies and resolves operational, staffing, and patient care issues in a timely manner, escalates complex concerns to the Manager, and actively participates in quality, safety, and performance improvement activities. This position exercises independent judgment in managing the day-to-day supervision of assigned lab services float pool coworkers and the operational activities of the designated units, areas, or shifts.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required Qualifications:
- Two or more years applicable experience
- Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
- Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
- Must be willing to work variable shifts and overtime as required
- Must be willing to testify in court regarding testing activities if subpoenaed
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Current CA CLS License or CA limited license in area of specialty
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in supervision
- Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
Licenses and Certifications:
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist or CA limited license in area of specialty
