Salary Range: $97,100.00 - $112,300.00

Position Summary
Works with a dynamic team and directly oversees the maintenance and repair services on the institution's utility and infrastructure systems, including mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and controls/smart building systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides direction to, trains, and motivates a team of technical staff on functional specific tasks, applications, concepts, policies and/or procedures as it relates to operating a complex physical plant and campus infrastructure.
- Understands the various functional components of larger complex infrastructure systems. Works towards maintaining highly energy efficient operations of such systems. Contributes towards the advancement of the department's energy and sustainability goals.
- Communicates effectively and provides stakeholders with the status updates, issues, key activities and any changes to the scope of the overall project.
- Develops scope of work for projects. Identifies materials and labor necessary for major/critical maintenance and repair projects. Obtains materials pricing from vendors. Arranges for outside contracted services as needed.
- Directs, monitors, and approves the actions, performance and/or products of contractors and vendors.
- Performs routine inspections of campus infrastructure systems to ensure high quality work performed by staff and contractors is completed timely and properly.
- Evaluates the impact of planned and emergency shutdowns of selected electric utility systems, schedules the shutdowns and supervises the activities of staff assigned to the shutdowns.
- Maintains regulatory compliance and ensures staff obtain and maintain required NYC certifications for specific utility systems.
- Cross-covers supervisory positions in other trade areas within the department as needed.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in related field highly preferred
Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering or another technical field or trade school in one or more trades is preferred.
Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or construction within a large institution or commercial facility with complex infrastructure systems.
Approximately 5 plus years in a previous supervisory capacity is preferred.
Must have valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex interrelationships between multiple mechanical systems.
- Ability to work on off-shifts as required to accommodate on-going operations and/or emergencies.
- Ability to be available for 24-hour emergency call-ins.
- Demonstrated knowledge of other maintenance trades (plumbing, mechanical, controls, etc) is highly desired.
Licenses and Certifications
- Maintain FDNY certifications necessary for the operation of utility systems. The required FDNY Certificates of Fitness as one requirement to successfully complete the probationary period are: A35, C42, F60, G46, G60, G71, P98, P99, S12 and S13.
- NYC Refrigeration RMO License/Certification is preferred.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Position requires working in a non-office environment where there are some physical discomforts such as noise, dust, heat, fumes and other elements which are continuously present; Periodic work in animal research areas, work in machine rooms, crawl spaces, areas where there are odors from maintenance products; leaks, dust, dark areas, dampness, areas with restricted access, and noise; Frequent use of ladders to perform work; Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds and push/pull objects up to 100 pounds; Position requires the utilization of hand tools, power tools, large wrenches; operation of small to large valves; visually and audibly required to observe operating equipment; ability to walk, stand, climb ladders/scaffolds, bend, reach, lift and carry
