Support & Wellness Specialist
Position Information
The School of Medicine's Student Affairs team at the University of California, Riverside seeks a compassionate and skilled Support & Wellness Specialist (Health Educator 3) to advance learner well-being across undergraduate and graduate medical education. The position designs and delivers holistic wellness programming focused on stress management, mental health, nutrition, and work-life balance. The Specialist provides individual support sessions, promotes personal wellness planning through the eight dimensions of wellness, and connects students to appropriate campus and community mental health resources.
Working collaboratively with the Directors of Support & Wellness and Graduate Medical Education, this role helps create a culture of care, inclusion, and resilience for medical students, residents, and fellows. The UCR School of Medicine's Student Affairs department is dedicated to fostering belonging, supporting academic and personal success, and developing future physicians who value wellness as an integral part of professional excellence.
The full salary range for the Support & Wellness Specialist is $68,500 - $121,900 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $95,200 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.
Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
- Master's Degree in; Health Promotion, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or equivalent. Preferred
Experience Requirements
- Clinical experience providing mental health support/consultation. Required
- Experience in providing supportive counseling and crisis intervention services, wellness education, prevention, health promotion, mental health, or a related field (preferably in higher education). Required
- 4 - 7 years of related experience. Required
- Experience in program assessment and evaluation. Required
- Experience working with healthcare professionals. Preferred
- Experience in researching in compiling and analyzing data. Preferred
- Experience in wellness programming from a multi-dimensional perspective of wellness. Preferred
- Experience working with diverse populations and underrepresented communities and 1st generation students. Preferred
License Requirements
- LCSW, LMFT, LEP and/or LPCC license or license eligible in California. Preferred
Special Conditions
- Travel to various SOM and affiliate sites as needed. Required

- Thorough knowledge of the health promotion and education field.
- Thorough knowledge of the design and delivery of related programs.
- Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services.
- Effective interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse client groups.

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.
- Passion for growing, developing and empowering students on wellness initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver clear and concise presentations and reports.
- Ability to lead and motivate others.
- Ability to quickly assess and problem solve in complex situations through effective listening, consultation, data analysis and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to promote and market wellness programs, events and activities to gain learner involvement in wellness initiatives.

Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Presents group classes on a variety of subject areas of need, including but not limited to: nutrition, weight management, smoking cessation, stress management, diabetes management, prenatal care, cardiovascular health issues, etc.
