Position Title: On-Campus Intern – Sustainability
Department: Sustainability (under the Dean of CTE)
Reports to: Maria Anna Rafac
Position Summary: The Sustainability Intern will provide support within the Sustainability department.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engage students, faculty, staff, administration, and the community to promote sustainable practices.
- Collaborate and assist the Sustainability Coordinator with marketing, recruiting events, and promotional activities and events.
- Plan and coordinate Earth Month and Campus Sustainability Month
- Represent the College as a sustainability professional and advocate for the advancement of sustainable practices at Joliet Junior College and the community.
- Attend sustainability related meetings on and off campus (such as NAC, GAC, IGEN, SMHEC, etc.) or other meetings to network, learn, and relay knowledge back to the College.
- Coordinate bi-weekly Sustainability Union meetings and Sustainability Union events by preparing ideas, organizing the necessary documentation and location, and presenting information.
- Collect, update, and maintain documentation for programs, grants, memberships and other internal and external validation.
- Participate in weekly Sustainability Leadership meetings to plan meetings, events, and initiatives.
- Work with sustainability student worker and other departments across the campus relative to sustainability activities.
- Partner with off campus community organizations and schools to participate in their events to promote sustainability in the community.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled into at least 6 credit hours at Joliet Junior College
- 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher
- Good standing with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities
- Must have completed one major course, prior to applying for internship
- Must be referred to the On-campus Internship by a JJC staff or Faculty member
- Understanding of sustainability in relation to the environment, social equity, and the economy, as well as familiarity with sustainable technologies, developments, and procedures such as recycling.
- Understanding of marketing, communication, and engagement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and other digital media programs.
- Good communication/organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from campus and external events and activities.
- Must be available some evenings and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Have taken SET 100 Intro to Sustainability, Bio 146 Environmental Biology or other sustainability related coursework.
- Aspire to creatively and analytically further sustainability on campus and in the community through ideas and actions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Normal office physical demands.
- Occasional light to medium lifting.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Duties are generally performed indoors in the usual office setting and/or outdoor environment.
STATUS: Part Time, 20 hours per week
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $17.00 per hour
