Systems Administration/Automation Engineer

About This Opportunity

The Systems Administration/Automation Engineer supports the delivery of secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure services across on-premise and public cloud environments. The role focuses on virtualisation, converged infrastructure, networking and automated provisioning, ensuring high availability of computing platforms while driving automation and continuous improvement across Microsoft and Unix operating systems.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day operation of secure and highly available servers, storage, networks and cloud platforms within the Infrastructure Operations Team.
  • Designing, implementing and maintaining technical solutions for virtualisation, cloud, converged infrastructure and automated provisioning.
  • Providing intermediate technical support, incident resolution and coordination with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Contributing to IT change initiatives, automation activities and infrastructure projects that enhance service reliability and efficiency.
  • Participating in on-call roster arrangements to support critical services.

About You

You are a proactive and technically capable infrastructure professional with a strong interest in automation and modern platform operations.

  • Tertiary qualifications in IT or a related field with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Practical experience with virtualisation, storage, networking and automated provisioning technologies in enterprise environments.
  • Technical capability in three or more of the following: Microsoft/Unix administration, Palo Alto firewalls, VMware vSphere, public cloud (AWS/Azure), scripting for automation, or tools such as Puppet, Ansible or Jenkins.
  • Experience working within service-oriented IT operations and contributing to infrastructure projects and change initiatives.
  • Sound problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues, research options and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to prepare technical documentation and engage professionally with stakeholders.
  • A self-motivated and organised approach with demonstrated commitment to delivering reliable outcomes in a team environment.
  • Experience with GPFS storage clusters or Cisco networking environments (desirable).
