In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and physical systems.
- Gather and provide input on functional specifications and requirements.
- Support client questions/issues regarding applications and/or systems issues and availability, and develop and maintain client documentation.
- Perform other related technical support for one of our departments or the college.

Essential Functions
- Installing, updating, and remediating multiuser enterprise server operating systems including Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows server.
- Maintaining storage server systems and technologies including NFS, SMB, Ceph, ZFS, clustered files systems.
- Managing the operation and maintenance of network switches that service private storage and research networks.
- Installing physical server, switch, and communications cabling systems into datacenter and research laboratory environments.
- Installing, updating, and remediating applications and Linux development environments using tools such as Git, GitHub, and Python.
- Orchestrating server system administrations, application deployment inventory reporting, and vulnerability remediation tasks using tools such as Ansible, AWX, chef, Puppet, PowerShell, Qualys, and PRTG.
- Developing and deploying generalized OS layouts for servers and research systems using Kickstart and other automated system deployment methods.
- Maintaining backup infrastructure for server, research instrument control systems, and Linus workstations using Veeam.
- Monitoring of backup and system messages generated by Linux desktops, clusters, and servers, to identify and document potential security, configuration, and hardware problems.
- Liaison with manufacturers, vendors, and University services to resolve warranty issues, repairs, maintenance, and returns.
- Provide assistance to staff, faculty, and students for equipment installation, relocation, and upgrades; this duty will include moderate physical activity involved by equipment setup in office, research labs, and datacenter environments.
- Contribute to continually improving inventory and system state data through automated generation.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of IT experience in the administration of distributed computer systems; OR
- Associate's degree plus 7 years of relevant IT experience in the administration of distributed computer systems; OR
- High school diploma plus 11 years of relevant IT experience in the administration of distributed computer systems.
Minimum Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- You will be exposed to quickly evolving technology, so a strong desire to learn is needed.
Minimum Technology Skills
- At least three years of experience in system administration in multi-user Linux Administration.
- Demonstrable abilities of interaction with Linux systems at the command line to include knowledge of the general organization of the file system; familiarity with various services and their configuration files and tools.
- Demonstrable ability to script in shell scripting.
- Advanced understanding of server infrastructure and operating systems.
- Ability to test and troubleshoot vulnerabilities in software and hardware.
- Ability to implement software and upgrade firmware.
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
- Strong technical aptitude and computer skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Linux System Engineer Certification
- Familiarity with Linux automation/orchestration tools (Ansible).
Salary Range
$59,460 - $101,090
