FLVC delivers centralized technology services that support all 40 public colleges and universities in Florida. As a Systems Engineer, you will join a skilled IT team that designs and maintains the infrastructure powering statewide solutions for student success.
Responsibilities
This position reports directly to the Enterprise Systems Manager and supports the Tallahassee office as a member of the System Services team. The role focuses on supporting and enhancing the stability, performance, and scalability of server and application hybrid and cloud-based infrastructure needs within the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC) environment.
Responsibilities include analyzing and resolving complex issues involving enterprise applications, knowledge and support of Linux and Microsoft server operating systems with deploying and managing virtualization technologies and docker containerization; developing and maintaining automation scripts to streamline operations; supporting Microsoft Azure services including computer, networking, Intune, and Web Application Firewall (WAF); managing backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity; and providing technical analysis and planning aligned with FLVC's strategic and operational goals.
Act as systems engineer by providing management, maintenance, monitoring, documentation and support of designated server or systems to ensure the integrity and availability of utility and application servers and associated applications.
Assist in identification of needed support to solve user problem areas regarding system operations, production, or FLVC policies and provide appropriate solutions; participates in problem solving activities as needed.
Assist in the diagnosis and resolution of problems affecting machine hardware and/or software working in conjunction with other FLVC staff or vendors. Perform other duties as assigned.
Provide analysis and development of plans to meet FLVC's current and future needs. Be available by beeper during off-hours to address any assigned responsibility, including answering off-hours calls for the computer systems hardware.
Perform work in support of business processes and projects, as assigned. Performs time-sensitive tasks and meets established deadlines; maintains effective communications with appropriate FLVC staff; maintains effective working relationships to ensure the success of the business processes and projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years' experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

What is a typical day in this position? A typical day as an IT systems engineer involves monitoring and maintaining servers and networks, troubleshooting issues, implementing updates or security patches, and collaborating with teams to ensure systems run reliably and efficiently.
What can I expect in the first 60-90 days? The expectation in the first 90 days is to learn the organization’s infrastructure, familiarize its tools and processes, build relationships with key stakeholders, and begin contributing to routine system support and small projects under manager guidance.
