Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences 

Academic Psychiatrist – Mood Disorders Program

We invite applications for an excellent opportunity available for the full-time position of Academic Psychiatrist with appropriate experience, to work in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Neurosciences (DPBN), McMaster University and the Mood Disorders Treatment and Research Outpatient Clinic (MDTRC) at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. The MDTRC is a specialist clinic at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton providing tertiary and quaternary care, working in strong alliance with primary care providers and also work with transitioning clients with chronic and refractory mood disorders from the child/youth to the adult system.

The successful candidate will have training and experience in caring for persons 17 years of age and older with complex primary mood disorders, first episode bipolar disorders and chronic/refractory presentations of other mood disorders. The clinical part of this position entails managing an active case load of patients seen both individually and in a group setting, working within a multidisciplinary team composed of experienced clinicians, social workers, an occupational therapist, CBT therapists (individual and standardized group therapy) and experts in behavioural activation.

The academic psychiatrist will be expected to fully participate in all of the appropriate departmental and divisional administrative and educational activities. As the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Neurosciences and the Mood Disorders Treatment and Research Outpatient Clinic both have a strong research and education mandate, the successful candidate will be actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, clinical service and clinical research activities, so candidates with experience in these areas will be preferred.

The successful candidate will hold a valid licence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ontario and be a trained psychiatrist with FRCPC or equivalent.

The appointee of this position will hold a full-time academic appointment in Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at an academic rank appropriate to their credentials and experience. The position offers excellent benefits, and remuneration is commensurate with academic rank and position duties and responsibilities.
