Teacher of English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

About us

King’s Foundations, part of the Centre for International Education and Languages (CIEL), delivers high-quality international pathway programmes, academic skills development, and English language preparation courses. Our mission is to enable and empower students to thrive at a world-leading university. We are committed to diversity, inclusivity, and cultural competence, and we pride ourselves on delivering an outstanding student experience that combines academic excellence with holistic support.

About the role

We are seeking experienced and suitably qualified teachers of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to join King’s Foundations—a successful, friendly, and thriving department located in the heart of London and the university. Our team comprises around 115 staff members, increasing to over 150 during the summer months, and generates an annual turnover of approximately £30 million.

As we expand our EAP provision—including Foundation, Pre-sessional, Academic Skills, and Short Courses—we are looking for enthusiastic educators to contribute to this exciting phase of development. The successful candidate will teach approximately 580 hours per year across our International Foundation, Pre-sessional, and Short Course programmes, both on campus and online. They will also contribute to the design, development, and delivery of a range of modules and courses within our growing EAP portfolio.

In addition, the postholder will act as a personal tutor, providing academic and pastoral support to students, including safeguarding responsibilities for those under 18. Please note that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this role.

This role is offered on the Academic Education Pathway (AEP), which recognises and supports excellence in teaching and educational leadership. It is subject to a three-year probationary period, in line with other academic roles at King’s College London.

We welcome applications from individuals with a strong background in EAP education, a commitment to inclusive teaching, and an interest in contributing to scholarly activity. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of EAP provision at King’s Foundations.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 20th August 2026.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. A postgraduate degree and TEFLQ status as defined by the British Council (e.g. a Level 7 Diploma in English Language Teaching such as the DELTA or equivalent).
  2. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) or a commitment to achieving it within the probationary period.
  3. Proven experience of successful teaching in both face-to-face and online environments, including effective assessment and feedback practices, within English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or related contexts.
  4. Experience of providing academic and pastoral support to international students, including acting as a personal tutor and supporting students under the age of 18.
  5. Awareness of and commitment to inclusive practices in the classroom, with a high level of cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse learning needs.
  6. Familiarity with digital learning tools and platforms, and experience integrating technology into teaching to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  7. Engagement in scholarly or professional development activity related to EAP, international education, or digital pedagogy.
  8. Experience contributing to curriculum and assessment design, including the development of teaching materials and digital resources.

We ask all candidates to submit a copy of their CV, and a supporting statement, detailing how they meet the essential criteria listed in the person specification section of the job description. If we receive a strong field of candidates, we may use the desirable criteria to choose our final shortlist, so please include your evidence against these where possible.

To find out how our managers will review your application, please take a look at our How we Recruit pages. Interviews are due to be held on the WC 12th January 2026.
