The department is located in a newly built 160,000 ft2 Laboratory Science Commons (LSC), an interdisciplinary laboratory science facility for research and teaching. Laboratories include shared spaces for collaboration as well as private research labs for faculty. Extensive investment in new modern instrumentation for research and teaching has well positioned the university for expanded outcomes in research. The department confers an ACS-certified B.S. and M.S. in chemistry and participates in the interdisciplinary Environmental Science (EVS) Ph.D. program.

Essential FunctionsThe candidate will be expected to establish and sustain a robust, independent research program that engages undergraduate and graduate students and complements the department’s existing research with expected outcomes, while vigorously pursuing external research support. Candidates are encouraged to consult the department’s website for a list of major instrumentation and research infrastructure. The department strongly encourages interaction with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Teaching expectations will be at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and may involve general chemistry and other courses.
The candidate will be expected to participate in professional and community services as well as demonstrate collegiality and cooperation within the Department, College, and University. Ability to teach online and other delivery methods.Minimum QualificationsA Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution in chemistry is required. Candidates must have a demonstrated potential to excel as an educator and as a researcher.Preferred QualificationsAll qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Research plans that emphasize the department’s new, state-of-the-art mass spectrometry (MS) facilities are preferred, including bioanalytical, biomedical, biophysical, environmental, forensic, and industrial/process methods.
Compensation and Benefits
SalaryCommensurate with education and experience. This is a 9 month tenure-track position beginning August 2024.Benefits InformationTennessee Tech offers a competitive benefits package.
