Job Summary
The Department of Teacher Education seeks applicants for a tenure track faculty position beginning August 1, 2024. The selected candidate will be responsible teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.
The Department of Teacher Education is comprised of 25 faculty with 19 initial teacher, advanced teacher, and service degree programs. The department supports students at all levels of their career pathways and is a partner with schools and programs throughout the South Georgia region. The Dewar College of Education and Human Services prepares professionals for multiple roles in educational, business, and community settings. The College is home to five departments (Leadership, Technology, and Workforce Development, Teacher Education, Human Services, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Library and Information Studies). The Dewar College of Education and Human Services is approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) and is an American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) award-winning institution. In addition, several of the college programs are accredited or national recognized by their specialized professional organization.

Responsibilities
Department Summary
Teaching up to 12 credit hours (fall and spring) of undergraduate and graduate level courses in the department in a variety of modalities to include on campus and online (synchronous and/or asynchronous); supervising field experience and clinical practice; fostering relationships with teachers and administrators across the state; supporting schools within the region; mentoring candidates of different cultures and backgrounds; scholarly productivity; participating in service activities at the department, college, and university levels; serve as the program coordinator for the Masters of Art of Teaching in Elementary Education.Teaching up to 12 credit hours (fall and spring) of undergraduate and graduate level courses in the department in a variety of modalities to include on campus and online (synchronous and/or asynchronous); supervising field experience and clinical practice; fostering relationships with teachers and administrators across the state; supporting schools within the region; mentoring candidates of different cultures and backgrounds; scholarly productivity; participating in service activities at the department, college, and university levels; serve as the program coordinator for the Masters of Art of Teaching in Elementary Education.
Typical Allocation of Duties
Teaching and scholarship - 80%
Teaches classes and conducts/presents research in the employee's academic discipline.
Service - 20%
Participates in service at the department, college, and university levels.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field;
- Elementary Education teaching experience in the US;
- Experience with online/distance education;
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant¿s career stage;
- Experience with program management/coordination;
- Successful college-level teaching in elementary courses;
- Experience teaching in graduate programs;
- Expertise in the use of technology for teaching and learning;
- Knowledge of data-informed and research-based practices;
- Experience in student recruitment, retention, and success;
- Interest and willingness to contribute to fostering and maintaining partnerships with public schools and districts;
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
- A record of mentoring students.
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
