Assistant Professor of Education (Mathematics)

The Goodman School of Education at Catawba College seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor of Education, with a specialty in mathematics education. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate mathematics education courses and courses in other areas of possible content/pedagogy expertise. Responsibilities may include day and/or evening classes, with the possibility of summer coursework opportunities, courses in the First Year Seminar program, and courses in the College Honors Program. Successful applicants will have a background in mathematics education, familiarity with both face-to-face and online instruction, and K-12 public school experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in supervision of teacher candidates in their field experiences. Experience with technology education courses and with edTPA is preferred.

The faculty member is expected to:

  • Prepare and teach specified courses
  • Supervise students in field experiences
  • Advise students
  • Promote the School of Education majors and minors
  • Provide service to the department and college
  • Maintain an active program of research/scholarly activity
  • Foster professional relationships with public school and community college partners
  • Provide service to the public schools and professional community
  • Participate in program review, assessment, and revision
  • Assist in recruitment efforts for all education programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

The successful candidate must have:

  • Doctorate in Mathematics Education or related field
  • Mathematics Education Certification/licensure (or eligibility)
  • Familiarity with teaching, learning, and educational theories
  • Knowledge of current national and state standards
  • Ability to work collegially and seek opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in K-12 schools

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience teaching mathematics education courses at the college level
  • Ability to teach courses in other areas of content/pedagogy expertise
  • Experience with edTPA
  • Experience with culturally, linguistically, and academically diverse students
  • Experience in the field of technology education and in modeling technology use in educational settings

This position will be a full-time faculty position and may be tenure-track or non-tenure track, depending upon the qualifications of the applicant. Full-time faculty are expected to participate on committees, attend faculty and School of Education meetings, and conduct program and class assessments in accordance with the standards of the College. Faculty are also expected to participate in campus activities.
