We are ITS (Information Technology Services) and we are responsible for the provision, maintenance, and support of information and communication technologies and business systems within the University of Otago community.
We are one of the largest ICT operations in NZ, supporting 27,000 users, an extensive communications network across multiple campuses and a wide range and variety of ICT systems.
The role/Te mahi
As the leader of our Cyber Security & IT Assurance Unit, you will be responsible for the development, adoption, management and monitoring of a service management approach to IT delivery. You will also work to ensure that the University IT systems remain secure and that information security risk and exposure to vulnerability is actively minimised by supporting the development and adoption of best cyber security practices.
Your unit will provide ongoing confidence to the University that our IT services remain fit for purpose, reliable, resilient and secure while also remaining adaptable to meet the University’s changing needs.
As a member of the IT Services Leadership Team, you will manage, develop and implement industry-standard IT assurance frameworks, policies and standards while building a tailored and dynamic multi-year assurance plan. Using service delivery data, dashboards and reporting, your team will collaborate with managers to provide in-depth analysis of IT Services performance delivery and client experience.
Taking a proactive approach, you will obtain and act upon vulnerability information, conduct security risk assessments and investigate suspected attacks or major breaches of IT security.
Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
• Tertiary level Computer Science qualification or equivalent discipline.
• Experience in the implementation and monitoring of service performance KPIs, performance metrics, service standards and agreements.
• Successful implementation of an industry standard service management framework.
• Previous commercial experience focused on information security or cyber security.
• Proven success driving and delivering continuous improvement in a large organisation.
This Senior role is well suited to someone with a passion for service management, cyber security and a knack for navigating large, enterprise environments.
You will play a key role in ensuring the on-going security of University of Otago research outcomes and protecting the data, systems and tools that enable the education for tomorrow’s leaders.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours), permanent position, located in Dunedin.
You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this position.
