Description

The Yale University School of Medicine seeks applicants for a Psychiatry Residency Program Director. This position will carry an academic appointment in the Yale Department of Psychiatry at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

The Program Director will provide overall leadership of the residency by setting priorities and making decisions utilizing the program’s core values, guiding principles and available resources. The Program Director will oversee a leadership team that includes four associate program directors, a residency coordinator and program staff. The Program Director will also work collaboratively with the Yale Graduate Medical Education office and the site training directors at four affiliated institutions (Connecticut Mental Health Center, VA-Connecticut Healthcare System, Yale Health, and Yale-New Haven Hospital/Yale Psychiatric Hospital).

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  1. Developing processes to evaluate the quality of the entire residency program, using the Resident and Faculty surveys and other pertinent program level data, and with reference to the program mission, core values, and guiding principles. Develop and update a formal Annual Program Evaluation with strategic priorities.
  2. Overseeing the didactic and clinical curriculum. Overseeing processes to evaluate the quality of the didactic program and faculty teaching in the program.
  3. Developing multiple methods to assess each resident’s progress in the program. This includes identifying resident strengths and areas for improvement in order to provide an individualized education and training plan for each resident. 
  4. Reviewing and responding to feedback about the clinical learning environment and faculty teaching in each institution to ensure learning is maximized and to address discrimination or harassment of residents and faculty. 
  5. Implementing and tracking the ACGME requirements for Psychiatry Residency Training programs.
