Casual Lecturer - Intensive Numeracy & Literacy (ESOL)

July 18 to 11 December 2024

The School of Social Sciences and Humanities seeks applications for a part time (2 days per week) ESOL literacy Lecturer to teach on the ILN programme.

The Lecturer will deliver ESOL literacy and numeracy programmes to adult learners which will enable them to participate more fully in study, work and life in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The lecturer will be expected to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of high-quality teaching and learning materials and experiences for the learners, many of whom are former refugees.

The successful applicant will have

• qualifications and experience in teaching English to adult speakers of other languages
• a sound knowledge of what constitutes effective learning and teaching
• knowledge of New Zealand culture and Te Tiriti
• competent organisational and IT skills
• a high level of English as well as excellent communication skills
• a friendly, patient, and approachable manner

Experience and/or a qualification in teaching adult literacy would be an advantage.
