Adjunct Instructor in Communication

Job Description:
Bellarmine University is currently seeking applications for an Adjunct Faculty position to teach a course titled, "Athletes, Branding and NIL" to enhance our curriculum in the Department of Communication. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to engage with students in developing their literacy and proficiency in the use of traditional and social media as they relate to NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) and the sports media environment.
The successful applicant will guide students as they explore the history of NIL, the rise of social media and how it drives NIL activity, and what is currently happening in NIL (it changes daily). The course will detail opportunities, marketing strategies, legal implications, best practices, pitches and ways to capitalize on NIL opportunities. The class is intended to combine the hands-on approach of having students develop marketing and media plans to encourage NIL activities for an athlete of their choice.
Teaching Responsibilities include:
- Conducting all assigned class sessions punctually and adequately prepared, demonstrating expertise in marketing, branding and advertising concepts and effective instructional strategies
- Familiarity with NIL, fostering students' understanding of how NIL operates and the laws and rules surrounding it
- Designing and evaluating assignments aligned with the course objectives and learning outcomes, providing constructive feedback to students to enhance their abilities to help athletes brand and market themselves
- Holding regular weekly office hours to provide individualized support and guidance to students
- Submitting final grades to the registrar within designated deadlines and conducting comprehensive evaluations for each course
- Adhering to an approved syllabus or collaborating with the Department Director to develop a suitable syllabus based on established learning objectives
Requirements:
- A master's degree in Communication or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Previous experience teaching marketing, advertising or NIL-related courses at the undergraduate level required
- Experience working in the NIL space preferred
