About This Opportunity 

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow / Research Officer will be involved in experimental design and execution to characterise ablator materials in a high-speed and/or high-temperature flow environment.

With this opportunity you will develop capabilities in combined experimental approaches for assessing fluid/surface response interactions in a high-temperate gas environment. The main purpose is to develop an Australian experimental capability in experimental characterisation of ablator materials for high-speed flight applications.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Research

  • Design experiments to characterise ablator material responses in a high-temperature gas environment.
  • Supervise and manage the execution of ablator material testing in world-class facilities.
  • Produces quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in high quality outlets.
  • Participate in applications for competitive research funding to support projects and activities.

Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).

Citizenship and Service

  • Demonstrate citizenship behaviours that align to the UQ values.
  • Shows leadership of self through collaboration and active participation in priority activities for the unit.
  • Provide support to other academic positions and unit operations as needed during other team members absences.
  • Begin to develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to mid-March 2025. At Academic level A. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,324.85 - $102,945.12, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,470.08 - $120,445.79 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You 

  • Completion or demonstrated progression towards completion of a PhD in the discipline area.
  • Demonstrated competence in:
  • designing experiments for high-speed/high-temperature flow environments.
  • performing experiments and associated measurement calibration.
  • analysis and documentation of results from experiments.
  • Ability and willingness to:
  • publish in high quality outlets.
  • supervise honours and/or Higher Degree by Research students.
  • participate in coursework teaching activities.
  • promote and adhere to a positive safety culture.
  • Demonstrated:
  • high level of drive and enthusiasm.
  • high level of interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • commitment to UQ's values.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Australian Citizenship: It is a requirement of this position that the applicant is an Australian citizen.
  • AGSVA Clearance: It is a requirement of this position that the applicant is eligible and willing to apply for security clearances as required by the project activities.
