About us

The post-holder will have a leading role within the Centre for Ageing Populations (CAPS), working with Prof Kate Walters. The over-arching goals of CAPS are to better understand age-related conditions that impact on well-being and independence in later life and develop and test complex interventions to improve health and well-being and maintain independence for older people. CAPS is a multi-disciplinary group with expertise in intervention development, qualitative research, epidemiology and clinical trials.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated academic keen to develop their career as a leader in applied health and social care research and education in primary care and/or community settings, with an interest in older populations. The post-holder will lead an independent research portfolio in applied health or social care research in primary care and/or community settings in older populations, supported by senior academics in the department. They will lead a programme of teaching, including as Deputy Programme Lead and Research Methods module lead on the intercalated BSc in Primary Care Research and Clinical Practice and co-leading the module in Qualitative Research Methods for the BSc in Population Health at UCL.

About you

The post holder should have a good degree in a relevant discipline and a PhD or equivalent qualification. They should have experience in leading applied health or social care research in older populations in primary care, public health or community settings, including obtaining funding for research. They should have experience in mixed methods or qualitative research, evidence of delivery of outputs and impact from their research and experience supervising PhD students and other early career researchers or junior colleagues. They should have experience of teaching undergraduates and/or postgraduates using a range of teaching methods and demonstrate an understanding of curriculum design, innovation and quality assurance in teaching. They should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a commitment to being a leader in applied health or social care research in older populations.
