Open Rank Computer Science Teaching Faculty (Multiple Positions)

The Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Jamestown is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Computer Science faculty member with a passion for teaching and is looking to excel in a liberal arts environment. A successful candidate will have a strong background in computer science and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and engaging with the broader liberal arts curriculum.

We have multiple openings with our on-campus program, which also has the potential to be involved with further developing additional online technology programs and a forthcoming graduate technology program. A candidate who has experience with Canvas, online teaching, and hybrid teaching modalities would bring valuable insights to these on-campus openings. Rank (Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor) is open for these positions, so dependent on teaching experience at the time of appointment. The position is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2024.

Minimum requirements:

  • Master’s degree in computer science or a related field

Preferred requirements:

  • Terminal degree in computer science or a related field.
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment.
  • An ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds and foster an inclusive classroom environment.
  • A demonstrated passion for interdisciplinary collaboration and integration of computer science with liberal arts disciplines.
  • A commitment to staying current with developments in computer science and technology.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a range of computing courses that may include introductory, intermediate, and advanced level courses. Course topics will be based on the curricular needs, the experience of the candidate, with consideration given to the topics of passion for the candidate.
  • Priority consideration will be given to experience in one or more of the following areas: Programming, Mobile Application Development, Game Development (Unity/Unreal Engine/etc.) 3D Animation (Blender), or Information Systems.
  • Our general education service course of Microsoft Office Applications could also potentially be a focal for the right candidate.
  • Foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and ethical considerations in computer science education.
  • Mentor and advise students, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Contribute to the development of interdisciplinary programs and engage with other departments across the college.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide committees and initiatives.
  • Maintain an active presence in the academic and professional computer science community.
