About the role - About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the team of highly professional, dedicated science staff working at the University of Waikato’s School of Science. For this varied role, you will need to be talented technically, as well as organised and enjoy the process and outcomes of science research. Primarily you will be responsible for technical support in the fields of biomedical and molecular and cellular biology with a focus on Microbiology.
This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week) based on our Hillcrest campus. Salary will be in the range of $66,698 to $79,256 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position.

You will be self-motivated, with a demonstrated capacity to work effectively as a team member and to relate effectively and sensitively to students and staff from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. You have vision to develop and improve processes and an ability to learn quickly on the job.
In addition to your tertiary qualification, and/or relevant experience, you will preferably have:
- Relevant work experience in microbiology methods and techniques, especially culturing
- Preparation of teaching labs
- Experience working in MPI facilities including PC1 and PC2
- Microscopy experience
- Ability to provide high quality technical knowledge, training, and support to both academics and students to assist them with their research programmes
- A current NZ full driver’s license or equivalent is required
